Not splendid but pretty good sound with different sizes. They are handy!

This page is now on a new server, and downloads are handled via FTP. To keep free soundfonts free, the bandwidth must be controlled. If you get an error message from your browser when you select a download, try again in a few minutes – it just means that all connections are busy. Also, please don’t try to download more than one file at a time – you are limited to only a single connection and will get that error message again. Once a file is complete, you can download another. Thanks for your understanding.
It may not call large files these days, but there are many Mega bytes SoundFont there.
I tried them with my MidiToWav, and it felt a bit odd because it sounded very different from the Sequencer’s sound, but nice tuned!

Follow the link SoundFont!
There are free MIDI files and stuff too.
It feels 8MB Creative Labs SoundFont sounds better to me after all.
MIDITEST is a program that can play MIDI files and use the SoundFont in your system and even replace it with another if you want it.
You must have at least DirectX3 or newer. People tend to have much newer nowadays. If you have Windows7, you have DirectX11.
I found BASS.DLL (http://www.un4seen.com/) handling MIDI decently and in addition it can read and play SoundFont.
Actually, it was an example program with some programming language in the package I downloaded from the BASS website and I modified a bit. It is what you have here.
Since the original files were open source, so you have them too, I think. I just put a few buttons, and wrote a few lines of code – really just a few lines.
You can either download the software files or source code in Delphi. You can download both if you wish, of course.
When you start this program, you see the SoundFont your computer is set to. If you cannot see it, your computer does not use it at all. If you have a newer computer, it’s so sadly. But you can do it with this program.
The SoundFont is quite large if you want a good sound. And I would not include it in this package. Fortunately, BASS website is such that you can download it for free.
These files will not be updated in the future.

To decompress soundfont package you need SfArk, which is also free for non-commercial use.

I thought I must mention that.
SF2 on BismutNetwork
when I was looking for something good on the Internet, I found a site called “BismutNetwork”. They have a high quality soundfont named Crisis General Midi 3.0 (1,57 Gb uncompressed) and it is free of charge. It is GM full bank…means really useful!
Also you can download many sample MP3 files from there.
SF2 on Soni Musicae
You will find 2 Harpsichords, 1 Pipe Organ, 1 Diatonic Accordion and 1 Bells soundfonts there, and Harpsichords are very nice. There is Piano sound as well but it is GIG format (Gigastudio) and I cannot play it. It says that I can use Synthfont (http://www.synthfont.com/) but it made some loud noise with my Vista. Perhaps you have Gigastudio or Halion … then try it!
I also found a nice Pipe Organ soundfont (almost 800 Mb uncompressed) without fee. Unfortunately I forgot where it was located and I cannot tell you here. It was Linux related site.
